3 easy ways to personalize your engagement photos | allison ewing photography

for brides

The start of a new year is always an exciting time as a wedding photographer! Since we’re in proposal season, it’s no secret that lots of couples are looking for the perfect photographer to capture their best day ever! But before we get to wedding photography, we have to start with the engagement photos! (And if I’m being honest, engagement sessions are my favorite sessions to shoot because there’s so many ways to have fun and personalize them!)

Engagement sessions are included in each wedding day package with Allison Ewing Photography! There’s many reasons for this, but in short: engagement sessions allow me to get to know my couples, they learn my posing style and we capture this special season of life!

If you’re struggling to think about where to take your engagement photos, I always ask my couples if there’s any place that’s special to them and go from there! This question always gets their gears turning and we always end up with locations that are unique to each couple!

Here are three examples of fun ways to personalize your engagement photos.

1. Grab a beer: I’m serious! If you love craft beer, going to your favorite brewery is the perfect location to capture engagement photos. See if you’re able to get into the brewery right before they open for the day so you have the place to yourselves! Bonus: If you have any pre-photo session nerves, having a beer will certainly help! (Special thanks to Lineage Brewery for letting us use their awesome space.)

2. Share an ice cream sundae: What’s better than sharing ice cream with your best friend? Having your photographer tag along to document it! This idea can also work with any restaurant that you and your fiance love!

3. Head to a place that you both love to spend time: If there’s a location that you and your fiance love to spend your time, then it’s special to you for a reason and that should be documented! Even if you don’t think that a particular space is very photogenic, I guarantee you that your photographer will view it in a completely different light! If there’s a city that you both love, take a trip there for your photos! Or if a lake holds significant memories for you, grab a canoe and head out for an adventure!

And I want you to know that it’s ok to think outside of the box when it comes to having your engagement photos taken! Your homework is to spend some time thinking about where you’d like to capture your photos and let your photographer tell your story from behind their camera!
